illuminate history

Curiosity: forget “Cherchez la femme” (Look for the woman.) “Cherchez l’histoire.” (Look for the story.)

Fit to print–close enough…

The event exceeds my original expectation! You can find my first Disunion piece via the online edition of today’s New York Times.

When I discovered Disunion last spring, I thought it was a stand-alone Civil War commemoration blog. I discovered only recently that on-line subscribers can go to the Op-Ed page, scroll down to Opinionator, click, then scroll down to Disunion, and click again. If you do that today, you will find yourself at http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/25/rules-for-the-road/!

Better Rules for the Road, a companion piece, on the balance of Haupt’s remarkable innovations for the USMRR from August 1862 through August 1863, is slated to appear in mid-August. And I hope to have a couple  of pieces about Francis and John Bailey in October 2013 and April 2014.
