Curiosity: forget “Cherchez la femme” (Look for the woman.) “Cherchez l’histoire.” (Look for the story.)
About two years, I think. My husband Gary and our families are fine and we have taken a couple of trips since our Transcontinental Loop, but the major reason for my silence has been a characteristic I may have referred to before: Tenacity should be my middle name.
I know I’ve written about donating the painting of the little girl with the big black dog, that I inherited from my mother to the Portland Art Museum in 2012 and how that act inspired me to find out who the girl was and what happened to her. Well, I did and it took me about as long as all the research on my great-grandfather, the Civil War locomotive engineer.
Once the book was finished, I spent about a year trying to market the narrative non-fiction book (Who Was That Girl?) to a number of academic presses. Several months ago, I decided to go ahead and do what I did with the first book: self-publish it with Amazon.

Well–yes, a very deep subject–it’s been an even longer time. The version of the book that Kindle Direct Publishing finally produced contained many errors, so I turned instead to Ingram Publishing. I am now in the process of learning how to substitute the correct edition on Amazon.
Stay tuned…
Please.
